I put these on my STOCK 99 Sportster XLC, they wore out in TWO MONTHS!... Lick's replaced them with a second set and they also only lasted 2 months and wore out exactly the same way. Lick's said they would replace them again with some old stock boots when I returned the second set, I mailed a set back and I have never recieved the 3rd set. The failure was in the first pleat of the boot, they wore all the way through on both forks mounted on STOCK 39mm fork legs. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THESE TO ANYONE, THEY DO NOT LAST!!! In 5 months I went through 2 sets of these Fork Boot Covers. Lick's need to figure out what is wrong with this product!!!!

John – we have been looking at the pictures you sent of the installed fork gaiters and are trying to figure out what's going on. If you take a set of the gaiters and compress them as far as they go naturally you end up with a distance of 1 5/8” from the top of the outer fork leg/slider to the bottom of the lower triple tree. If the forks are shortened to where the measurement is less than that when the fork is fully compression perhaps that could cause them to tear.
Certainly looking at the inside of the gaiter where it fits over the slider, it is clearly designed to fit the slider with the stock chrome cover removed. According to your emails, the installation was done without the dust caps being removed. Perhaps this could cause them to tear.
We have literally sold hundreds of these and only one or two have had a problem, both of which had extended tubes and customers were trying to stretch the gaiters to fit. Perhaps it is something specific to your bike that is causing the problem, we are not certain.
We looked into this after you sent us the first blown out set. Our manufacturer came to the same conclusion as us, if this was in fact a product defect, they would certainly have come back to us in a much greater volume than the few sets out of the hundreds already sold. My partner has been running a set of these very fork boots on his personal bike since 2007 with no issue.
Whatever the deal, we want to make sure you’re happy regardless of this unfortunate circumstance. Therefore, we have gladly refunded the total purchase amount including shipping. Sorry we could not come up with an iron clad explanation for the multiple tears, but it seems to be an isolated problem that is specific to your bike …Thank you Licks
